Environmentally Sound
Clearwater Port Commitment to Environment & Quality of Life
Natural gas is the cleanest major source of energy used in the United States today – a viable, clean-burning fuel that can improve air quality today as it replaces higher-emitting fuels, while providing an important bridge to the most promising renewable technologies of the future. In more than 40 years of transporting natural gas around the globe in liquid form, there have been no maritime incidents resulting in a major release or injury.
Clearwater Port's commitment goes much further. Our Pacific Coast is a national treasure - and a core component of our quality of life here in California. Clearwater Port will be an environmentally sound terminal that protects our ocean horizon, beaches and marine ecosystem – and transforms an existing oil-drilling platform into a safe, state-of-the-art natural gas receiving terminal for bringing in clean natural gas. It will also help fuel the transition to clean natural gas alternative vehicles - and to the most promising renewable technologies of the future.
EPA
"LNG is odorless, colorless, non-corrosive, and nontoxic." - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
NRDC
"With careful siting, the greater price stability that LNG offers could help avoid increased reliance on dirtier fuels for electric generation and other purposes. In addition, NRDC recognizes the value of natural gas, in both compressed and liquefied form, as a relatively clean alternative fuel for vehicles."
