The safety of natural gas is no secret: Every day, we use it to heat our homes and cook our food. It enters our houses and businesses through underground pipelines that lie beneath our streets – and powers the cleanest buses and taxis in many California cities.
Liquefied natural gas is simply natural gas in chilled, liquid form. It’s been transported around the world for more than 40 years – including to places like Boston Harbor, Tokyo and Belgium – without a single maritime incident resulting in a major release or injury.

Clearwater Port's leadership has more than 150 years of experience in the energy field, so our goal is to meet an even higher standard. Our state-of-the-art safety systems will meet or exceed the rigorous safety and environmental standards of local, state and federal regulatory authorities - which will be independently verified by unbiased experts, and will be subject to wide-ranging and comprehensive public scrutiny and debate.
Natural gas, like water, is safely and commonly converted
from vapor to liquid form, and back again.
